The Monolith

Pioneering NYC artist, Gwyneth Leech, enters a midtown art studio only to find that her skyline view will soon be blocked by the construction of a high-rise hotel. But as the perspective out her window permanently shifts, so does the artist's point of view. The Monolith is directed by Angelo J. Guglielmo, Jr. (The Woman Who Wasn't There), produced and shot by Andy Bowley, EP'd by Andrea L. Smith. Rosie Walunas adeptly employed the Adobe Creative Suite to bring over 200 pieces of Leech’s beautiful artwork to life using Animation, Motion Graphics and Compositing. Leech has exhibited her work across the United States and the UK in museums, commercial galleries, public art spaces, and alternative venues. The Monolith follows NYC artist Gwyneth Leech and her latest body of work documenting a building being constructed outside her midtown studio. It's about creative blocks in life as much as art. The film took roughly four months to complete, giving the short documentary utmost heart and care. I don't consider myself a graphics artist or animator by any means, but, yes, I did all the graphics animations and all the editing. All the tools I used to create the imagery in this short film are tools I already had in my repertoire as an editor. The Monolith has screened at numerous film festivals and premiered as a Vimeo Staff Pick and on Short of the Week. The Monolith also screened at Video Consortium events in NYC (2019) and LA (2018).
